Last February I had the pleasure to be the substitute drummer for the Big Star's Third concert that was taking place at the Playmakers Theatre @ UNC. Big Star's original drummer, Jody Stephens, couldn't make it because of a prior event, so Chris Stamey called me in to sub for him. It was an awesome night of music, and parts of the show were filmed for a documentary. This same ensemble (with the exception of me) had previously done a Christmas show (of the same material) at the Cat's Cradle and about a month after this performance, they all headed up to NYC for a performance there.
The sound for the videos below was taken from a board mix and you might not see me in the videos, as I was tucked back in the rear left corner of the stage near the Timpanist.
From YouTube:
"Kangaroo," from Big Star's Third/Sister Lovers album. The group's influence has continued on, to this: "Big Star Third," a ongoing concert series by a diverse community of musicians performing the whole of Third, working from scores re-created by composer Carl Marsh. Chris Stamey (the dB's) provides additional orchestration and serves as the series producer.
Players include Stamey, and members of the Lost in the Trees, The Old Ceremony, Birds and Arrows, Mayflies USA, and the NC Symphony. Lead vocal by Brett Harris.

In the next video, which was compiled with footage from the Christmas performance and the one I performed in, my playing consists of cymbal rolls in the middle and there is a brief moment where you can see me and the timpani player.
From YouTube:
This song is "Holocaust," from Big Star's Third/Sister Lovers album. Time has proven its reputation as a haunting masterpiece - and a fitting tribute to the talents of songwriter, Alex Chilton. The group's influence has continued on, to this: "Big Star Third," a ongoing concert series by a diverse community of musicians performing the whole of Third, working from scores re-created by composer Carl Marsh. Chris Stamey (the dB's) provides additional orchestration and serves as the series producer.
This video captures two separate performances. Players included Big Star's own Jody Stephens, Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Mitch Easter (Let's Active), Stamey, and members of the Love Language, Megafaun, The Rosebuds, Lost in the Trees, The Old Ceremony, Birds and Arrows, Mayflies USA, the Tomahawks and the NC Symphony.
Lead vocals by Django Haskins. Additional vocals by Sidney Dixon.
