With over 20 years of experience in the Music Business, including a degree in Music (BM, University of North Texas) empahsizing education, performance and a thorough knowledge of all things drum and percussion related, I can help you reach your drumming goals and teach you a thing or two about how the music business REALLY works.
Prior to my involvement with the band Sixpence None the Richer and my work as an independent session musician, I spent 6 years at the University of North Texas, studying with Robert Schietroma, Lalo Davila, Frankie Malabe (RIP), Ed Soph, Ron Fink, Henry Okstel, Colin Bailey, and a whole host of wonderful teachers and performers. I was a multi-year scholarship recipient and performed, traveled and/ or recorded with the One o' Clock Lab Band, the UNT Jazz Singers, the UNT Zebras, the UNT Steel Drum Ensemble, the award winning UNT Drumline, The UNT African Ensemble, The UNT Gamelan Ensemble, and a whole host of other smaller combos, jam sessions, percussion recitals, and concert and orchestral ensembles.
While in college, I spent a summer traveling across the US with the Sky Ryders Drum and Bugle Corp and was one of 3 drummers hired to perform as a college musician at Walt Disney World during the summer of 1988. Subsequently, I was asked to be the Assistant Director of their College Band program and returned to work at Disney for the following summer.
Currently, I teach individual, 30 minute drum lessons out of my home studio in Durham, NC. I'm also available for workshops, clinics, and adjunct faculty and other related speaking/ lecture engagements as my schedule allows.
If you have a desire to learn and the motivation to practice, I believe I have the educational background and real world experience to help you achieve your drumming goals!
