My Studio Kit

My Studio Kit

In the studio...

Here is the kit I use for most of the recording I do. I'll occasionally change out the kick drum. The Snare Drum changes depending on the song - as do the cymbals. On this particular day, I was using my Radio King kit, with the 24" Kick, 13" Rack tom, and 16" Floor tom. The rack tom is RIMS mounted and hangs off a Gibralter Rack. The Kick sits on a D'Amico Bass Drum Cradle, so that it doesn't move.

The snare in this photo is my favorite: a Premier Signia Wood-Hoop. It's a really versatile drum and is super-easy to tune. Changing heads is quick too.

Cymbals are a mix of Zildjian K's and Zildjian K Constantinople's. A Remo 16" Djembe sits to my right and to the left of the snare is a 10" Remo Doumbek and a 10" Egyptian tambourine.

In the lower left corner of the picture you can see the notebook I use to make my charts and my headphones that I use when tracking drums: Studio Kans. I like these headphones because they have a volume knob on the side of the earpiece and they are able to block around 29db of noise. Both features I feel have kept me from going deaf on numerous occasions.

My drum stool is an old Yamaha Drum Throne. Ed Bunge from The Percussion Shop in Springfield, MO convinced me to invest in a good throne back when I was starting college. This was the best throne at the time and it's served me well.
